NEA BRIEF
I would like to create an alternative/ indie music video as my NEA choice. I have decided on the song Loser by the band Beck released in 1993. I would like to focus on a non chronological narrative story based on a monkey. I will purchase a gorilla costume and have the character as my main feature. The monkey will symbolise substance abuse and the affects of being under the influence, the monkey representing chaos and wildness that take over someone who is under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The monkey will be portrayed to be doing disruptive and antisocial behaviors such as causing a wreck of the town, shouting at people and being a public disturbance. The monkey will also be featured at a party in which it’s viewed as “the life of the crowd” as many people film its embarrassing and crazy behaviours - I will do a split screen shot of several point of views of the crowds phone cameras filming a candid shot of the monkey. Between verses the monkey will switch to a human perspective - representing the same person sober. The day will be shown as mundane and miserable as if that person relies on this “monkey” to feel happy and enjoy life. Before the chorus the person will be implied that they have used substances again and the shot will return to the monkey. The chorus shots will be focused on the monkey dancing around with its human counterpart in a field, focusing on a light hearted approach moree to match the song, although the deeper meaning Is within.
